The Skull Bottle That's Saying Goodbye: A Guide to KAH Tequila

The Skull Bottle That's Saying Goodbye: A Guide to KAH Tequila

Most tequila brands try to win you over with the liquid. KAH won people over with the bottle first — a hand-painted, skull-shaped design built around Mexico's Día de los Muertos tradition. Here's everything worth knowing about the tequila inside it, before the distillery moves on to a new bottle format.

What Is KAH Tequila?

KAH is a 100% blue agave tequila brand produced at Fábrica de Tequilas Finos, a distillery in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. The brand is owned by Amber Beverage Group, an international producer and distributor of alcoholic beverages. Agave for KAH is sourced from the Lowlands region of Jalisco.

The name KAH comes from an ancient Mayan word for "life" — fitting, given the brand builds its identity around Día de los Muertos, a tradition that celebrates deceased loved ones rather than mourning them.

The Bottle: Hand-Painted, One at a Time

Every KAH bottle is individually hand-painted, so no two are exactly alike. The skull shape and artwork are designed to reflect Mexican folk-art traditions tied to Día de los Muertos.

That design is changing. The distillery is moving to a new bottle format, which means the original hand-painted skull won't be part of future production runs. Once current stock sells through, this particular shape is done.

What's Actually Special Here

Let's be straight about it: the bottle is the story. The hand-painting, the Día de los Muertos concept, the fact that no two bottles are identical — that's what sets KAH apart, and it's a legitimate point of difference in a category full of identical glass.

The tequila itself is well made and genuinely 100% blue agave, produced at a proper distillery in Jalisco — but the tasting profile sits comfortably within what you'd expect from a solid Reposado or Añejo. Nothing unusual in the production method, nothing left-field in the flavour. It's good tequila in familiar territory.

Buy it for the art. It happens to hold up once you pour it.

The KAH Range

KAH produces four core expressions, all 100% blue agave and bottled at 40% ABV:

  • Blanco — unaged, bottled shortly after distillation
  • Reposado — aged in oak barrels
  • Añejo — aged longer in oak for a fuller character
  • Extra Añejo — the brand's longest-aged expression
