Alizé was created in 1982 just outside the Cognac region in southwest France by two brothers-in-law, Lafragette and Légier, who pioneered a distilling technique to achieve perfect homogeneity between French vodka, Cognac and natural fruit juices. Alizé Passion became the first liqueur to blend exotic passion fruit with French vodka, establishing an entirely new category, and the brand went on to become deeply embedded in 1990s hip-hop culture after 2Pac's "Thug Passion" and repeated references from Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z and Dr. Dre.
