This bottle represents a genuine, rapid pandemic-era pivot: Lark Distilling installed a dedicated column still — the only one of its kind in Tasmania — specifically to produce medical-grade sanitiser at scale, ultimately capable of 1,000 litres a day, to help meet a genuine shortage facing Tasmania's hospitals, aged care centres and State Emergency Service. Demand was so intense in Lark's home state that queues reportedly stretched 400 metres down the street outside their cellar door, with purchase limits introduced just to keep supply fair across the community. The company redeployed its entire stood-down hospitality workforce into producing, bottling and dispatching this exact product, keeping staff employed through a period when their bars and venues were shut down. Worth noting honestly: Lark's own Head of Hospitality has since described this original WHO-formula liquid as "not very pleasant" to use, which is why the distillery went on to develop and now sells a different, cosmetic-grade gel sanitiser (with aloe vera, lemon myrtle and Tasmanian coastal tea tree) as their ongoing product. This liquid version reflects the original, no-frills, purely functional formula made at the peak of the crisis — a genuine piece of that story, best positioned to a customer as historical/limited stock rather than Lark's current sanitiser offering.
