Craggy Range is a family-owned New Zealand winery formed in 1997/1998 by Australian businessman Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steve Smith, built on the selection of exceptional single vineyard sites across Hawke's Bay and Martinborough. Every Craggy Range wine comes from a single, named vineyard, with individual parcels fermented and matured separately to preserve genuine site character rather than blending for broad consistency. The estate's Martinborough vineyards, centred on Te Muna Road, sit alongside its Hawke's Bay operations in the Gimblett Gravels district, together forming the core of a range widely regarded as among New Zealand's finest and most terroir-driven wine producers.

Craggy Range was formed in 1997/1998 through a partnership between Australian businessman Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steve Smith, built on a singular philosophy: select the very best land, plant it densely at low yields with varieties ideally suited to each specific parcel, and let the site do the talking. The Te Muna Road Vineyard, located seven kilometres outside Martinborough township, was planted in 1999 on two distinct terraces — the higher, older, stony clay-infused soils reserved specifically for Pinot Noir, and a lower, younger terrace better suited to Sauvignon Blanc. This wine draws on over ten carefully selected clones from diverse blocks across that higher terrace, each harvested and vinified separately before being artfully blended together — a genuinely meticulous, parcel-by-parcel approach that captures real purity, depth and sense of place.
