Alizé was created in 1982 just outside the Cognac region in southwest France by two brothers-in-law, Lafragette and Légier, who pioneered a distilling technique to achieve perfect homogeneity between French vodka, Cognac and natural fruit juices. Alizé Passion became the first liqueur to blend exotic passion fruit with French vodka, establishing an entirely new category, and the brand went on to become deeply embedded in 1990s hip-hop culture after 2Pac's "Thug Passion" and repeated references from Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z and Dr. Dre. Alizé's exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret to this day, known to only two people, and the brand has since expanded into a range of expressions including Red Passion, Gold Passion, Rosé and Bleu Passion.

Alizé Rose carries genuine romantic intent behind its creation — according to the brand's own director, it was created in 2007 specifically for Alizé's 21st anniversary, designed to express a romantic mood and "symbolise the feeling of love" through its soft colour, delicate aroma and floral character. What sets it apart even within the Alizé range is real estate provenance: the rose petals are Mediterranean varieties grown in the gardens of Château Loudenne, a historic estate on the Gironde owned by the Lafragette family — the same family whose trading house, Domaines Lafragette, has been producing fine French Cognac since 1814, well over a century before Alizé itself existed. That heritage gives Rose a more storied backstory than most fruit liqueurs on the market, layering genuine Cognac-house history under its light, floral, pink-hued character. As with every Alizé expression, it carries the brand's broader hip-hop cultural cachet, and its delicate lychee-rose-passion fruit profile makes it a versatile, elegant mixer — excellent served straight over ice, in a Rose & Lychee highball, or topped with Champagne or sparkling wine for an elevated aperitif.
