The Bream Creek Vineyard Lieblich Field Blend is a rare, semi-sweet white wine from Tasmania, co-fermented from the extremely rare German variety Schönburger and grapes from Bream Creek's own 1974 "Old Vine" Riesling planting — one of the vineyard's founding blocks. "Lieblich" is an old German word for semi-sweet wines, and this release captures exactly that: intense fruit and floral aromatics balanced by refreshing acidity for a crisp, off-dry finish. A genuinely scarce style from Tasmania's cool maritime East Coast, and one of the few field blends of its kind made anywhere in the country.

Nose: Intense aromas of citrus, melon and tropical fruit, layered with rose petal, jasmine, gardenia, Turkish delight, pressed flowers and hints of wet-stone minerality.
Palate: Ripe grapefruit, honeydew, rockmelon and golden delicious apple, with a touch of lychee, sliding gently into off-dry territory.
Finish: Crisp and fresh, with the wine's natural fruit sweetness balanced by refreshing acidity — described by the winery as "like standing in a field of daisies in summer, with a fresh fruit salad."
Bream Creek Vineyard was planted in 1973 on Tasmania's east coast, overlooking Marion Bay and Maria Island, making it one of the state's oldest and pioneering vineyards. Originally planted mainly to Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, the vineyard's focus shifted toward Pinot Noir after Fred Peacock purchased the property in 1990, alongside the first commercial Southern Hemisphere plantings of the rare German variety Schönburger. Now a 7.5-hectare estate suited to Tasmania's cool maritime climate, Bream Creek has built a strong reputation, particularly for its Pinot Noir, regularly earning high scores and trophies at major Australian wine shows.
Schönburger is one of the rarest grape varieties grown commercially anywhere in the world, and Bream Creek holds real pedigree with it — the estate planted one of the earliest commercial plantings of the variety in the entire Southern Hemisphere. This wine goes a step further by co-fermenting Schönburger together with fruit from the vineyard's own 1974 Riesling block, one of Bream Creek's original founding plantings, meaning the two varieties are grown, picked and fermented together as a genuine field blend rather than assembled after the fact. That traditional technique, paired with the "Lieblich" (semi-sweet) style — an old German term rarely seen used deliberately on Australian labels — makes this a distinctive, conversation-starting wine unlike almost anything else on the market. It's a strong pick for adventurous wine drinkers, collectors of rare and unusual varieties, or anyone wanting to introduce a genuinely different style alongside more familiar Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc offerings.
