Chambord is a premium black raspberry liqueur crafted at La Sistiere Château in France's Loire Valley, bottled at 16.5% ABV in a 700ml bottle. Loosely based on a 17th-century raspberry liqueur said to have been served to King Louis XIV during visits to the nearby Château de Chambord, it's an infusion of red and black raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants blended with Madagascar vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel, honey and XO Cognac. Instantly recognisable by its distinctive globe-shaped bottle, it's the raspberry liqueur that defined the French Martini, and a genuine icon of French luxury liqueur-making.

Chambord traces its inspiration to a raspberry liqueur reportedly served to King Louis XIV in 1685 during a visit to the Château de Chambord in France's Loire Valley. The modern brand was developed in 1982 by Norton "Sky" Cooper at his family's cordial company, Charles Jacquin et Cie, and quickly became known for its distinctive globe-shaped bottle topped with a metal crown, evoking the liqueur's royal French heritage. Brown-Forman acquired the brand from the Cooper family for $255 million in 2006, subsequently updating the bottle design while keeping the same recipe. Chambord remains the world's best-known black raspberry liqueur, and the essential ingredient behind classics like the French Martini and Kir Royale.
Chambord's story reaches back to 1685, when King Louis XIV is said to have been served a marvellous liqueur made from wild raspberries during a visit to the Château de Chambord — a legend the modern brand, developed in 1982 by Norton "Sky" Cooper (whose son Robert would later create the elderflower liqueur St-Germain), built its entire identity around. That royal French heritage is reflected in its instantly recognisable globe-shaped bottle with a metal crown, a deliberate design choice from its 1980s relaunch meant to evoke exactly that regal history. Chambord is the raspberry liqueur that made the French Martini what it is, and it remains the benchmark against which every other raspberry liqueur is measured — distinctly sweeter, richer and more luxurious than a simple Crème de Cassis, and built on a genuinely more complex blend of berries, Madagascar vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel, honey and aged Cognac. It's earned recognition at international competitions too, including Silver and Bronze medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A true must-have for any drinks cabinet — perfect in a French Martini, a Kir Royale, topped with Champagne or Prosecco, or simply served neat over ice with a lemon peel twist, exactly as the brand itself recommends.
