Craggy Range is a family-owned New Zealand winery formed in 1997/1998 by Australian businessman Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steve Smith, built on the selection of exceptional single vineyard sites across Hawke's Bay and Martinborough. Every Craggy Range wine comes from a single, named vineyard, with individual parcels fermented and matured separately to preserve genuine site character rather than blending for broad consistency. The estate's Martinborough vineyards, centred on Te Muna Road, sit alongside its Hawke's Bay operations in the Gimblett Gravels district, together forming the core of a range widely regarded as among New Zealand's finest and most terroir-driven wine producers.

This is a genuinely small-production wine — sourced from just a small planting of Riesling on the higher terrace of the Te Muna Road Vineyard, on the same very old, stony clay-infused soils that produce Craggy Range's celebrated Pinot Noir, giving this Riesling real site pedigree rather than being an afterthought variety. The Peabody family, who founded Craggy Range in 1997/1998, have named it a personal favourite within the estate's range, and the wine's structure backs that up — built specifically to reward long-term cellaring, with a recommended window stretching up to 20 years from vintage, genuinely rare longevity for a New Zealand white.
