It's a genuine first, not a marketing first. This is the debut release in El Dorado's High Ester Blend series, pairing two marques — one column, one pot still — that had never been bottled together before.
The numbers back up the flavour. Ester levels above 1,500g/hL put this well past a standard El Dorado release, meaning the fruit and spice you taste isn't incidental — it's engineered into the distillate.
Cask strength, no dilution. Bottled at 57% ABV, this is the rum as it came out of 11 years in ex-bourbon oak, not adjusted down for easy drinking.
Works neat or in a serious cocktail. Structured enough to sip slowly, but with the backbone to hold its own in a Mai Tai or other tiki-style build where a standard rum would get lost.
Limited by nature. As the first in a numbered series from a single Guyanese distillery, once it's gone, it's gone — this isn't a rum DDL is going to keep making.
