This is the Lynn family’s flagship Cabernet, from a property in the Penola and Coonawarra district that the family has called home for more than four generations. The Majella property itself was bought by George Lynn in 1960 and now has 61 hectares under vine. The 2022 vintage was an excellent one for Coonawarra, with mild temperatures, a long steady growing season and small, thick-skinned berries that produced concentrated fruit and firm, balanced tannins. Winepilot’s reviewer praised the “deft oak integration” and recommended drinking it over the next ten to fifteen years. The Real Review ranked it #15 of 46 Coonawarra Cabernets from 2022 and flagged it as Top Value AU. It sits above Majella’s more approachable The Composer Cabernet, so it suits drinkers who want more structure, length and cellaring potential from the same family. It pairs well with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, venison and braised beef cheeks.
