Founded in 1824 in Speyside, The Macallan is one of Scotland’s most prestigious whisky producers. Edition No. 6 closes out Macallan's six-year Edition series with its most personal and place-specific concept yet: rather than an external creative collaborator from fashion, food or perfumery, this release draws on the River Spey itself — the water that runs through the Macallan estate and shapes the character of the whisky at its source. Whisky Maker Steven Bremner worked with Macallan's own Ghillie (fishing guide) Robert Mitchell and Hardy, a historic and highly respected maker of fly-fishing tackle, hand-selecting five distinct sherry-seasoned cask types named after elements of that landscape and fishing tradition — "The River Spey," "The Ghillie," "Hardy," "The Atlantic Salmon" and "Whisky Making at The Macallan." As the final release in the six-part Edition series (each edition represents a different "pillar" of Macallan's whisky-making), it holds particular significance for collectors completing the full set, and reviewers have consistently rated it among the strongest and most classically "sherry-fuelled" releases in the entire series.
