Vedrenne has been making liqueurs since 1923 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy, initially winning recognition for the outstanding quality of its Crèmes de Cassis and fruit liqueurs. Now widely regarded as the third leading French producer of fruit and cocktail liqueurs, and the leader in the upmarket segment for bartenders, mixologists and connoisseurs, Vedrenne combines over a century of expertise with modern processing techniques across a wide range spanning liqueurs, aperitifs, fortified wines, fruit eaux de vie and syrups. The brand operates a museum devoted to Cassis at its main production site, alongside a smaller, more experimental distillery in the Dordogne/Périgord region, and its liqueurs receive numerous international awards each year for exceptional quality.

Rhubarb is a genuinely distinctive, less commonly stocked liqueur flavour, and Vedrenne built this one through real cold maceration — rhubarb stalks cut into small pieces specifically to aid the infusion process, rather than a shortcut flavouring — launched in 2014 as part of a trio of new liqueurs designed to bring fruity, characterful cocktail options to the range. The house behind it carries genuine depth of history: founded in 1923 by trained engineer Joseph Védrenne, who deliberately chose Nuits-Saint-Georges for its proximity to the Noir de Bourgogne blackcurrant fields on the slopes above Burgundy's famous vineyards, letting him process fruit within hours of picking, well before any aromatic loss — a fruit-to-still proximity that remains the house's defining advantage a century later. Vedrenne was acquired by Marie Brizard in 1987, then by the Renaud-Cointreau family in 1997, who merged it with verveine specialist Pagès, and in 2017 the house was awarded Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant status by the French Ministry for the Economy — genuine government recognition of continuity in artisanal production methods. The liqueur's distinctive retro label was hand-drawn by illustrator Alice Vallin, adding real visual character to a bottle already built on genuine tart, garden-fresh flavour. It's a versatile mixer — excellent in gin-rhubarb Martinis, rhubarb-and-strawberry Bellini builds, sparkling wine spritzes, or poured over panna cotta and fruit crumbles.
