Villa Massa was founded in 1991 by brothers Sergio and Stefano Massa in Piano di Sorrento, Italy, built on a family limoncello recipe dating back to 1890, using fruit grown on the family's own lemon grove. The brand uses exclusively Sorrento Oval lemons — the only variety recognised with Protected Geographical Indication status in the region — sourced in part from the family's own groves, Le Grottelle, which remain open to visitors today.
