Aberlour 12 is matured in a mix of American oak and European oak sherry casks, which is the whole reason it tastes the way it does. The sherry side brings dried fruit, spice, and a rounded sweetness, sitting on top of the honeyed, orchard-fruit character Speyside is known for. Aged a minimum of twelve years, it's full-bodied without being heavy, and it's one of the easiest sherry-cask whiskies to start with if you haven't tried the style before. Good neat, better with one ice cube, best if you're the type who reads the tasting notes on the box.
Nose: Ripe red apples, dried fruits, and a delicate hint of vanilla.
Palate: Smooth and full-bodied, with layers of sherry sweetness, spiced cinnamon, and rich dark chocolate.
Finish: Long and warming, with lingering oak and gentle spice.
